Late Summer

Petals pull downward, though they be but few:

We cannot call these last days quite the same.

Nights cling coolly, and without the steam,

And sun falls gold on hours that once wore blue.

New splits appear in days’ once-flawless seams—

And some night hours, we toss with restless dreams.
